~ PUBLIC UNIVERSITY vs PRIVATE COLLEGE ~

Based on the research in United States of America, it shown that...

Benefits of attending a public university
  • Tuition is much cheaper than that of a private university. For a year of classes, public tuition is approximately $3,500 for a full load of classes. Semester and quarter systems do not differ in the total price of tuition.
  • Students who do not get achieve high enough grades to gain admittance into a private university (which can be extremely exclusive) will have a much easier time attending a public university. But while a public university may be easier to get into, the curriculum may be just as difficult—or more difficult—than a private university's.
  • Public universities are much larger and more diverse than the average private university, and students may feel more comfortable around a larger student population that it offers.
  • Students have more of a choice as to which area of the country to attend school at when they select a public university. Since the chances of being accepted at such a public school are greater, the student can select a university in any climate, geographical region, or city they desire.
Drawbacks of attending a public university
  • Public universities are not as prestigious as private universities, and some careers might be more difficult to enter after graduation.
  • The larger size of public universities may distance the student from the educational atmosphere, making them feel more anonymous among the student population.
Benefits of attending a private university
  • Like privatized junior high and high schools, private universities generally have smaller class sizes, and more prestige than does a public university.
  • Students generally build stronger, more personal relationships with their professors and instructors, as there are special programs designed to increase communication and dialogue between the two. It is not uncommon for a university to arrange for professors to dine, correspond, and interact with students on a personal, friendly level.
  • Private universities also have a significantly higher amount of extra-curricular activities and programs for students to participate in, which can develop a stronger sense of community.
Drawbacks of attending a private university
  • Perhaps the greatest drawback of attending a private university is the difficulty in being accepted for admission. Harvard University—one of the country's most prestigious schools—only admits 1,650 students a year, only a very small portion of all those who apply. The admission process is therefore intensely competitive.
  • Price can be prohibitive for lower-income students, although many universities offer financial aid packages to those students who excel academically in spite of their financial backgrounds.
Overall, the most important factor of a successful education is how well-suited the school is to the individual student's needs and career interests. Students should consider rate their ideal university's unique programs and course offerings before deciding on which school to attend.

~ IS THAT CULTURAL ACTIVITIES ARE IMPORTANT TO MANKIND? ~

The Importance of Cultural Activities

An article in the Australian Financial Review by Katrina Strickland, Why arty just ain't as farty as it once was, refers to the release of a new Australia Council report on Australian participation in the arts. However, the article also drew my attention to an earlier story that I had missed.

Apparently, a week back, the Australian actress and theatre director Cate Blanchett delivered a speech pleading for greater arts funding in which she said, among other things, that the arts were more than just an industry, more than key performance indicators.

An earlier post, Train Reading – Jonathan F Vance’s History of Canadian Culture, introduced the work of this Canadian cultural historian.  In the last part of the book, Vance deals with the post Second World War period, tracing the rise of the Arts bureaucracy, along with the idea of culture as an industry and of expenditure on the Arts as something that can and should be justified on economic grounds. Reading the book, I was struck by the similarity with Australia. As I noted later, Canadian wording and program structures could, with relatively minor wording modifications, stand as Australian examples.

Cate Blanchett's speech could certainly be classified as special pleading. Further, the responses it attracted are not in fact new. It's just that the internet provides a new vehicle for their expression, making them more visible.

There is no doubt in my mind that Australia's cultural activities have greatly enriched Australian life. In ABC and music in country Australia I referred to two posts by Paul Barratt reflecting on the importance of ABC concerts in bringing music to country Australia. In Paul's case, it gave him a love of music that has continued to the present day.

When I look at my own girls, they have had access to a far greater range of cultural experiences than was the case for Paul or I and have benefited greatly as a consequence. It has become part and parcel of the way they see and respond to the world.

Eldest's experience as an actress and in production not only gave her poise in public, but the capacity to see situations clearly in a sometimes ironic way. She can also write with great clarity. Youngest's experience with English, art and drama gave her, among other things, a good visual eye, a wicked eye for dialogue and the capacity to write with great fluency, if not always great spelling or grammar! These are not minor things for a girl whose parents were once told might struggle to complete the HSC because, among other things, of her inability to write properly.

So my girlfriend have gained not just through personal enrichment of their own lives, but also in a practical working sense.

Each person is different and gains in different ways. At a personal level, I cannot share Paul or Marcellous's love of music. I enjoy it in its place, but it is still a limited place. On the other hand, my interest in oral and written English, the desire to write, was formed in part through my reading, in part through the same English teacher who inspired Australian playwright Alex Buzo, in part through my attendance at school and then university drama productions.

These things are clear to me as a person and as a father, but they are not easily measurable. Of themselves, they do not justify any particular level of or direction of Government support for cultural activities, broadly defined. They do point to the way in which such Government support has value extending beyond simple metrics such as numbers attending, employment, value of ticket sales or value of output.

~ SORRY GUYS, I'M NOT EASY TO SPEAK OUT ANYMORE ~

Disappointed.Anger.Betrayed.

Hmmm...I think it is good for me to shut up my mouth for a little while. Before that, I am really sorry to all my friends, mates, or anyone who are close with me from the old days until now.At this time, I am not sure that I can be humorous like the past or not, because something is bothering me from time to time...But, do not worry, because I am still a normal human, it's mean that I will not doing anything is stupid or weird that will drive me to the 'black hole'.What I really want, please understand me...I'll be back, with victory...About my problem, I will tell it to some trusted and understanding person, since this is very serious matter...

~ A NICE PLACE TO VISIT ~

Mount Everest...

Mount Everest, or Mount Chomolungma, is the world's highest mountain above the mean sea level at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). It is located in the Himalayas on the Nepal (Sagarmatha Zone)-China (Tibet) border.

In 1856, the Great Trigonometric Survey of British India established the first published height of Everest, then known as Peak XV, at 29,002 ft (8,840 m). In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society upon recommendation of Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India at the time, who named it after his predecessor in the post, and former chief, Sir George Everest. Chomolungma had been in common use by Tibetans for centuries, but Waugh was unable to propose an established local name because Nepal and Tibet were closed to foreigners.

The highest mountain in the world attracts many well-experienced mountaineers as well as novice climbers who are willing to pay substantial sums to professional mountain guides to complete a successful climb. The mountain, while not posing substantial technical climbing difficulty on the standard route (other eight-thousanders such as K2 or Nanga Parbat are much more difficult), still has many inherent dangers such as altitude sickness, weather and wind.

By the end of the 2008 climbing season, there had been 4,102 ascents to the summit by about 2,700 individuals. Climbers are a significant source of tourist revenue for Nepal, whose government also requires all prospective climbers to obtain an expensive permit, costing up to US $ 25,000 per person. By the end of 2009 Everest had claimed 216 lives, including eight who perished during a 1996 storm high on the mountain. Conditions are so difficult in the death zone (altitudes higher than 8,000 m/26,246 ft) that most corpses have been left where they fell. Some of them are visible from standard climbing routes.

~ HOW DID IT HAPPEN? ~

A DISASTER-TSUNAMI

The principal generation mechanism (or cause) of a tsunami is the displacement of a substantial volume of water or perturbation of the sea. This displacement of water is usually attributed to either earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, or more rarely by meteorites and nuclear tests. The waves formed in this way are then sustained by gravity. Tides do not play any part in the generation of tsunamis.

Tsunami generated by seismicity

Tsunami can be generated when the sea floor abruptly deforms and vertically displaces the overlying water. Tectonic earthquakes are a particular kind of earthquake that are associated with the Earth's crustal deformation; when these earthquakes occur beneath the sea, the water above the deformed area is displaced from its equilibrium position More specifically, a tsunami can be generated when thrust faults associated with convergent or destructive plate boundaries move abruptly, resulting in water displacement, owing to the vertical component of movement involved. Movement on normal faults will also cause displacement of the seabed, but the size of the largest of such events is normally too small to give rise to a significant tsunami.
Tsunamis have a small amplitude (wave height) offshore, and a very long wavelength (often hundreds of kilometers long, whereas normal ocean waves have a wavelength of only 30 or 40 metres), which is why they generally pass unnoticed at sea, forming only a slight swell usually about 300 millimetres (12 in) above the normal sea surface. They grow in height when they reach shallower water, in a wave shoaling process described below. A tsunami can occur in any tidal state and even at low tide can still inundate coastal areas.

~ HOLY WAR IN HOLY LAND ~

 Map of Holy Land

The Holy Land (also known as Ereṣ HaQodhesh/Eretz HaKodesh in Hebrew and also Bilad Ash'Sham in Arabic) is a term which refers to the geographical region of the Levant of no definite borders which has significant religious importance for Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Bahá'í Faith. Nowadays, it comprises roughly the territory of Israel, the Palestinian territories, Jordan and parts of Lebanon. Part of the significance of the land stems from the religious significance of Jerusalem, the holiest city to Judaism, the birthplace of Christianity, and the third-holiest to Islam. The perceived holiness of the land to Christianity was one of the motivational factors behind the efforts of the Crusades, which sought to win the Holy Land back from the Muslim Suljuq Turks who had invaded it and taken it from the Byzantine Empire. The land has been a destination for religious pilgrimages since biblical times, by Jews, Christians, and later, Muslims.

~ AM I EVIL? ~

NAZISM - The Nazi Ideology

Nazism (Nationalsozialismus, National Socialism; alternatively spelled Naziism) was the ideology and practice of the Nazi Party and of Nazi Germany. It was a unique variety of fascism that involved biological racism and antisemitism. Nazism presented itself as politically syncretic, incorporating policies, tactics and philosophies from right- and left-wing ideologies; in practice, Nazism was a far right form of politics.

The Nazis believed in the supremacy of an Aryan master race and claimed that Germans represent the most pure Aryan nation. They argued that Germany's survival as a modern great nation required it to create a New Order — an empire in Europe that would give the German nation the necessary land mass, resources, and expansion of population needed to be able to economically and militarily compete with other powers.

The Nazis claimed that Jews were the greatest threat to the Aryan race and the German nation. They considered Jews a parasitic race that attached itself to various ideologies and movements to secure its self-preservation, such as: the Enlightenment, liberalism, democracy, parliamentary politics, capitalism, industrialisation, Marxism and trade unionism.

To rescue Germany from the effects of the Great Depression, Nazism promoted an economic Third Position; a managed economy that was neither capitalist nor communist. The Nazis accused communism and capitalism of being associated with Jewish influences and interests. They declared support for a nationalist form of socialism that was to provide for the Aryan race and the German nation economic security, social welfare programs for workers, a just wage, honour for workers' importance to the nation, and protection from capitalist exploitation.

~ AMAZING BLOOD FACTS ~

Red blood cells

Two million red blood cells die every second.

There are approximately 100,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body.

Seven percent of a humans body weight is made up of blood.

In the early nineteenth century some advertisements claimed that riding the carousel was good for the circulation of blood.

Each day 400 gallons of recycled blood are pumped through the kidneys.

By donating just one pint of blood, four lives can be saved.
Blood is such a good stain that Native Americans used it for paint.

The kidneys filter over 400 gallons of blood each day.

The average life span of a single red blood cell is 120 days.

Blood accounts for about 8% of a human's body weight.

A woman has approximately 4.5 liters of blood in her body, while men have 5.6 liters.

Your blood takes a very long trip through your body. If you could stretch out all of a human's blood vessels, they would be about 60,000 miles long. That's enough to go around the world twice.

Half your body’s red blood cells are replaced every seven days.

If all the blood vessels in your body were laid end to end, they would reach about 60,000 miles.

~ FOOTBALL ICON ~

David Seaman

David Andrew Seaman MBE (born 19 September 1963 in Rotherham, South Yorkshire) is a former English football goalkeeper who played for several clubs, most notably Arsenal. He retired from the game on 13 January 2004, following a recurring shoulder injury. He was awarded the MBE in 1997 for services to the sport.

The peak of his career was during his period as Arsenal and England goalkeeper in the 1990s and early 2000s; during his time at Arsenal he won many medals including three league championships (1991, 1998, 2002), four FA Cups (1993, 1998, 2002, 2003), the League Cup in 1993 and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1994. During this time he also played in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, and Euro 96 and Euro 2000, and is England's second-most capped goalkeeper with 75 caps, after Peter Shilton.

Seaman's career highs came in his successful performance in UEFA Euro 96 and in Arsenal's UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, Premier League and FA Cup (including a superb save from Paul Peschisolido in the FA Cup 2002–03) campaigns in the mid-90s and early-2000s. Notable lows came with two costly errors, both from long-range efforts — conceding a last-minute goal in the 1995 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final to Nayim and conceding to a Ronaldinho free-kick in the 2002 FIFA World Cup quarter-final.

Seaman is left-handed, but throws the football with his right arm and kicks with his right foot.

~ THE GREAT WOMAN WARRIOR ~

 My dream girlfriend...

St. Joan of Arc was born at Domrémy, France circa 6 January 1412. Citing a mandate from God to drive the English out of France, she was eventually given an escort to bring her before Charles of Ponthieu (later known as King Charles VII). After gaining the approval of the Church scholars at Poitiers in March of 1429, she was granted titular command of an army which quickly lifted the siege of Orléans on 8 May 1429, captured Jargeau, Meung-sur-Loire, and Beaugency in mid-June, and defeated an English army at Patay on June 18.
After accepting the surrender of the city of Troyes and other towns, the army escorted Charles to the city of Rheims for his coronation on July 17.

An unsuccessful attack was made on Paris on September 8, followed by the successful capture of St-Pierre-le-Moutier on November 4. As a reward for her service, Charles VII granted her noble status along with her family on 29 December 1429. She returned to the field the following year, despite predicting her own defeat.

Captured at Compiègne on 23 May 1430 and transferred to the English, she was placed on trial in Rouen by a selected group of pro-English clergy, many of whom nevertheless had to be coerced into voting for a guilty verdict. Convicted and executed on 30 May 1431, she was subsequently declared innocent by an Inquisitorial court on 7 July 1456 after a lengthy re-trial process which was initiated shortly after the English were finally driven from Rouen, thereby allowing access to the documents and witnesses associated with her trial. The presiding Inquisitor, Jean Bréhal, ruled that the original trial had been tainted by fraud, illegal procedures, and intimidation of both the defendant and many of the clergy who had taken part in the trial.

The Inquisitor described Joan's death as a "martyrdom" in his final analysis of the case. In the 16th century the Catholic League used her as one of its symbols, although as with a significant percentage of other declared saints, Joan of Arc's formal canonization process was not initiated until a few centuries later. She was beatified on 11 April 1909 and canonized as a saint on 16 May 1920.

The first episode of the original Mr Bean series starring Rowan Atkinson was first broadcast on 1st January 1990. Since then Mr Bean has become known all over the world. Created by Rowan Atkinson, Richard Curtis and Robin Driscoll, there were only 14 episodes ever made.

In 2002 the character was transformed into an animated series of 26 half hour episodes. The series remains entirely faithful to the original Mr Bean, with the character still living very much in the real world. Rowan Atkinson provides all of Mr Bean's vocal sounds.

~ WHAT IS THRASH METAL? ~

Thrash metal is also known as speed metal, and since many of the early thrash bands were from San Francisco, it became known as Bay Area Thrash. It started in the early to mid '80s and was at its peak in the late '80s. Thrash bands were influenced by New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) and hardcore punk. Thrash was also the inspiration for later extreme genres such as death and black metal. There was also a strong European thrash scene, especially in Germany where bands such as Kreator, Sodom and Destruction led the way.

Thrash is driven by the guitar. It's played at a furiously fast pace with a staccato, percussive guitar sound. It layers fast riffs with higher pitched solos. Many thrash bands use the double bass drum.
Thrash vocals are usually very aggressive and sometimes angry sounding, but unlike death or black metal, they are still understandable.

~ 1001 FACTS APRIL FOOLS' DAY ~

The history of April Fool's Day or All Fool's Day is uncertain, but the current thinking is that it began around 1582 in France with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX. The Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Year's Day was moved from March 25 - April 1 (new year's week) to January 1.

Communication traveled slowly in those days and some people were only informed of the change several years later. Still others, who were more rebellious refused to acknowledge the change and continued to celebrate on the last day of the former celebration, April 1.

These people were labeled "fools" by the general populace, were subject to ridicule and sent on "fool errands," sent invitations to nonexistent parties and had other practical jokes played upon them. The butts of these pranks became known as a "poisson d'avril" or "April fish" because a young naive fish is easily caught. In addition, one common practice was to hook a paper fish on the back of someone as a joke.

This harassment evolved over time and a custom of prank-playing continue on the first day of April. This tradition eventually spread elsewhere like to Britain and Scotland in the 18th century and was introduced to the American colonies by the English and the French. Because of this spread to other countries, April Fool's Day has taken on an international flavor with each country celebrating the holiday in its own way.

In Scotland, for instance, April Fool's Day is devoted to spoofs involving the buttocks and as such is called Taily Day. The butts of these jokes are known as April 'Gowk', another name for cuckoo bird. The origins of the "Kick Me" sign can be traced back to the Scottish observance.

In England, jokes are played only in the morning. Fools are called 'gobs' or 'gobby' and the victim of a joke is called a 'noodle.' It was considered back luck to play a practical joke on someone after noon.
In Rome, the holiday is known as Festival of Hilaria, celebrating the resurrection of the god Attis, is on March 25 and is also referred to as "Roman Laughing Day."

In Portugal, April Fool's Day falls on the Sunday and Monday before lent. In this celebration, many people throw flour at their friends.

The Huli Festival is celebrated on March 31 in India. People play jokes on one another and smear colors on one another celebrating the arrival of Spring.

So, no matter where you happen to be in the world on April 1, don't be surprised if April fools fall playfully upon you.

~ HEY!EAT LIKE ME! ~

Eating Healthy = Living Longer

"Healthy Foods"
"High Fat Dairy"
"Meat, Fried Foods, & Alcohol"
"Breakfast Cereal"
"Refined Grains"
"Sweets & Desserts"

The "Healthy Foods" group had higher intakes of low fat dairy, fruit, whole grains, poultry, fish, and vegetables as well as lower intakes of meats, fried foods, sweets, high-calorie drinks and added fat. This group had a 40% lower mortality rate than the "High Fat Dairy" group did and a 37% lower risk than the "Sweets & Desserts" group did. There was no significant difference between "Healthy Foods" and "Breakfast Cereal" or "Refined Grains". This study is a promising look into how eating right may reduce your risk of chronic disease and death from it.

As I stated early and as nearly all published studies do, more research is needed in this area to make stronger conclusions but it's nice to finally get some positive feedback on eating right and staying healthy!

~ THE DAY THAT CANNOT BE BELIEVE! ~

"...I WAS THERE..."

Singapore Indoor Stadium’s all-times attendance record for the venue was finally broken when 15,000 Iron Maiden’s fans came to watch the English heavy metal band from Leyton in east London, Iron Maiden, played in Singapore for the first time in history.

The Final Frontier World Tour is in conjunction with the band’s fifteenth studio album, The Final Frontier, that was released on August 16, 2010 worldwide.

I bought a Pen A ticket (S$178 + S$3) online on November 10, 2010. Not very sure that I can last standing for 3 hrs without sitting. Almost sold my ticket away to another fan but the deal was off when they were not prepared to pay the money first.

There were crowd control management, queue systems and ushering problems when I reached at the Singapore Indoor Stadium (7pm). Fans who came around four to five were not allowed in the stadium when it started to rain heavily. Everyone got drenched and pissed and broke through the barricade.

I was quite surprised that Pen A queue was from one end to the other end of the stadium entrances, while at Pen B, fans do not really need to queue.

Bruce Dickinson remarked that an Englishman he met had warned him about Singapore’s lifeless concert crowds. From my previous experiences watching concerts at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, I’m quite agreed with the Englishman. But this concert was different, I was surprised that most of the 15,000 fans were standing, clapping, swaying, singing and hopping like a rabbit! He also said that this will not be the first and the last concert for them.

Overall the concert was AWESOME! Bruce Dickinson was all over the stage, climbing up and down the higher stage. Their energetic performance and stamina shows that Rock will never dies. My SGD181 was well spend and paid the price for standing too long. I had problem walking properly in the middle of the night to go peeing. I won’t mind paying more if they come here again. The stage, the lighting and the sound system were all perfect. I loved the album covers backdrop that changes when the band was performing songs from the albums.

Some fans were moshing in Pen A. I think Moshing and Circle Pit are only suitable for hardcore/punk shows but not rock/metal shows. As we were try and make some space for the circle pit, those behind me were pushing forward. All sorts of trouble might happen if people do not cooperate. For those youngsters, please don’t do it again.

Gordon     : Sir, can you tell us the beginning of the news?

Mr. Harris : Of course, Mr. Smith. For your information, my dear, starting in 18th century, news is been delivered by a town crier. This method is very popular and famous overall in all of part of  England and North America.

Gordon      : Hmmm...by the way, how he can do his job?

Mr. Harris : Owh, he does his job by shouting out the latest news as he walked through all the city streets. For me, it might be shameful. Haha...

Gordon     : So brave lol!Apart from that, I also very interested in the ways of the African.

Mr. Harris : Did you mean the 'talking drum'?

Gordon     : Yes, Sir!

Mr. Harris : Ohoh!Originally, the 'talking drum' was been introduced and popular in West Africa. Anyone know how the news is delivered?

Gordon     : Sir, According to our reference book, via the 'talking drum', the news travelled from one village to another.

Mr. Harris : Absolutely right!

Gordon     : In addition, in less populated area in Malaysia, the Orang Asli or Aboriginal spread news by word of mouth. I think, that is the most acceptable and trusted method for delivering the news.

Mr. Harris : Thanks for the new information, Mr. Smith. Look, nowadays, we can obtain information easily through newspapers, megazines, the television, mobile phones and the computer. In simple words, the development of technologies make the human life to be more easier.

Gordon     : That is right, Sir...

~ MCDONALDS AT LATE NIGHT ~

HUNGRY.EAT.ENJOY

A new year. A new burger. A new stomach-ache factor...haha, it was nice when I enjoyed my delivery McD's service to my home at the late night...Everyone was in the sweet dream, but my eyes were not so heavily to be closed...with the additional of the late night shows, including ROB-B-HOOD (Jackie Chan), CJ7 (Stephen Chow) and Toy Story...everything is nice and gorgeous, made me to feel happy, happy and happier for that time. The Prosperity Burger and Coke came, without any consideration, I started to bite it without any pity or humanity value...ah!Who cares? This is my burger and no one can take mine! Then, I bite the second burger. It feel so heavenly when I got these into my stomach...Unfortunately, at tomorrow, my stomach felt differently and very uncomfort, so I needed to book for my small 'single' room for 2 hours. I thought everyone know about this and it is better if I not tell ya' more...

For another case, the good news is I get my new Blues hero, Fernando Torres for 50 million pounds transfer from Liverpool to Chelsea. At the same time, a youngster, David Luiz also join us from Benfica to strengthen the squad in the second phase of the league competition. I hope there will be a positve effect for these...

~ THE MEMORY REMAINS ~

WE HAD GET RE-UNITE!

Alhamdulillah, Thanks to God, everything was going smoothly after I succeed to plan and organize my primary school reunion. It just a simple ceremony, we had a little feast and karaoke session. For your information, when we faced for the first time, everyone have no words to say. And what can I observed, everyone's face motion changed and sometimes we got blurred what we have to do there. Then, it was started with 'eating together' session in KFC, plus, the recall or ice-breaking process also was including in that part. All the members told their old 'story-telling' about the past memories in our lovely primary school. In this session, I could see that, the old behaviors, are still save, in their souls. What a nice remembrance!

After that, we waited for another members to gather with us. It is not a problem for the late, but the important,  we can see and talk with each other after 7-8 years we were broke. Ahah! The karaoke session! My favourite part. I still remember when I was in Standard 6, I was the runner-up of the Karaoke Competition in my school, had to sing together with the winner, in the Standard 6 Annual Dinner in a resort. As a tribute, my friends forced me to sing it back with the same song, "...Sandarkan Pada Kenangan by Jamal Abdillah and Siti Sarah..". What a shame! My voice are really not same as when I was 12. But, it was so nice. Then, we ended that with some photograpy session. It is a good day when we could see for another time, and we don't know when we could face for another time...

~ THE EARLY MID-SEM BREAK! ~

HOME SWEET HOME

Wow!It is so barely when my friends and I have to face the early university break for this semester within the holiday of Chinese New Year.Yeah! We all love it very much but, we have to face a lot of tasks and works after we get back in track. Assignments, Tests, Tutorials...everything is waiting us, watching us and especially haunting us everytime, everywhere and every seconds in this whole world.

Furthermore, for the good news, I feel so excited when for the first time, we had been given a task for a field-trip program, it means that we have been given a golden chance to go out, importantly, and at least, I can learn about the outside 'world'...since I am not very good to go out when I am in the university. It is also not important for me where should the program locate, but the effectiveness of the program will affect me for the long-term period. See ya' in March!

~ 1 MALAYSIA ~

TASK 1 :
MY VIEW AS A STUDENT TOWARD 1 MALAYSIA

     1 Malaysia Logo

As you know, on 16th September 2008, a historical day of our country is been created when our lovely Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak has designed a multi-racial program called "1 Malaysia". For more further information, this program is actually aimed for calling the cabinet, government agencies, and civil servants to more strongly emphasize ethnic harmony, national unity and efficient governance. Until now, in my opinion, this official program has been successfully done for the sake and future of the Malaysian.

Myself, as one of the future apprentice for this harmonic country, also as a Malaysian, assume that this program is absolutely not a political propaganda, instead it will increase the understanding of the whole people of Malaysia including Malays, Chinese, Indians, and the other communities. But, why?In my own words, the quality of communication between the governance and the people has increase from time to time. This can be seen when in majority, all the governance sector maximized their services to help the community in order to solve and overcome their problems with efficiently and effectively.

For another reason, what can I see when this program designed are, the governance effectiveness and efficiencies are improving every seconds. For example, Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak has introduced Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to measure and improve the efficiency and quality of governance service, as well as realizing the 1 Malaysia concept. Apart from that, the KPIs is actually provide a mechanism for the evaluation of ministries and other governance agencies including performance reviews in every six months. It is also include detailed job descriptions and goals for ministers, deputy ministers, and some other government officials.

Furthermore, in the other hands, Dato' Ser Najib Tun Razak also introduced to us National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) to play the roles in improving the governance effectiveness. The policies of this NKRAs are crime prevention, reducing government corruption, increased access to quality education, improvements in the standard of living for low income groups, upgrades to rural infrastructure, and improvements in public transportation. In that case, these achievements are successfully approached the philosophy of 1 Malaysia for 2009, " Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan " or People First, Performance Now.

In 2010 era, Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak made a special theme for that year as " Menjana Transformasi " or Generating Transformation which are articulated by him 1 Malaysia as a perseverance, a culture of excellence, acceptance, loyalty, education, humility, integrity and meritocracy. Instead of that, it is has been prove that this concept is just not for the political understanding but also can reunite back the coorperation between the public and the government.

With this One Malaysia concept, it helps to terminate this bad perspective and reunite the human races in Malaysia. This idea consists of two aspects, the application of solidarity and the application of aspiration values. Firstly, the definition of the application of solidarity is to unite all of the Malaysia citizen to become a single race, called Malaysian. Secondly, the application of aspiration values defined to apply a certain values to Malaysian such as integrity, loyalty, determined and the other.

In a nutshell, the 1 Malaysia concept actually is not only about the multi-racial toleration, but it enhance all of the public to involve in this program in order to achieve a better life in the future and at the same time, we are improving our interpersonal skills and increasing the understanding between the government and the community so that there will be a relation between them (us) and we can build a harmonic, peaceful and dedicated country that will be remain until the end of the World.
